How was it covering Scot Randle's song?
Well, it was a bit of a challenge. As you know I am not the girl to do covers. So this songswap was an extra interesting one. Because, one - it hadn't been done before and two - I could not play what Scot Randle played. It scared me, that's why I wanted to do it in the first place. So it helped me face one of my fears. How did you go about covering "Age of plenty"? So I went all in to figure out how I could make his song my own. I had a hard time at the beginning to find my ground in the song but once I got away from trying to copy it and really just went from the angle of feeling each line, I found my melody. So I guess it was a matter of figuring out my way of saying it, my way of singing it without changing the lyrics or the meaning in general and then the music followed. What do you think of Scot Randle's version of "It's not a crime"?
I had no idea what he was up to. He was traveling so I didn't get to hear anything before today and I was very surprised! It's a totally different song but it's the same song. It's crazy to hear his version. I know that I wrote the lyrics but I feel like I listened to his song. He completely made it his own. |
I am very happy and proud because he did send me an email saying he saw this as a challenge to approach making music differently than what he is used to. So I couldn't be happier because we both had a simular take on wanting to learn and grow from this experience as an artist.
What does "Age of plenty" mean to you? I was going through a really hard time when I got the song and it helped me pick up my guitar. Because I felt like - Why such a heavy song, I already feel so heavy? - But I placed it as, because a lot of us do feel that way. Heavy. Questioning our reality as we have created it. And I kinda had a positive feeling because of that. Because we can only fix what we see as broken. So the more we see, the more hope at getting better, coming together... So I tried to make this into a bit of a fight song. Would you recommend #mysongisyoursong to other songwriters for 2022? Of course! Yes!! It's so simple to inrol. You only need one song to do so and all levels of experience are allowed. I think you can enter for any reason and have an amazing time. It's a great way to learn and very exciting to hear what someone else can do with your song. It's being inspired and inspiring. Of course I would recommend, it's what I am all about. Also everything went really smooth, Jonah was always quick to help with questions and I am very happy with my match with Scot. |
